Inspired by the figure of Scheherazade, the narrator of ‘One Thousand and One Nights’, ‘The Nights’ is built around the act of narrating as a quiet, yet powerful, way of existance. Searching for an echo of that gesture in the present, the film follows La Pichi, a woman with an extraordinary ability to tell stories, born on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, in a body and a territory pushed to the margins. Like a contemporary Scheherazade, she uses humour and imagination to reclaim her identity and finds in storytelling her power to survive.
